چکیده

This paper presents the timing analysis methodology developed in the European project PSOCRATES (Parallel Software Framework for Time-Critical Many-core Systems). This timing analysis methodology is defined for parallel applications that must satisfy both performance and real-time requirements and are executed on modern many-core processor architectures. We discuss the motivation and objectives of the project, the timing analysis flow that we proposed, the tool that has been developed to automatize it, and finally we report on some of the preliminary results that we have obtained when applying this methodology to the three application use-cases of the project. 1998 ACM Subject Classification B.8.2. Efficient parallelization of the genetic algorithm solution of traveling salesman problem on multi-core and many-core systems

Efficient parallelization of genetic algorithms (GAs) on state-of-the-art multi-threading or many-threading platforms is a challenge due to the difficulty of schedulation of hardware resources regarding the concurrency of threads. In this paper, for resolving the problem, a novel method is proposed, which parallelizes the GA by designing three concurrent kernels, each of which running some depe...

Response-Time Analysis for par Single Core Equivalence Framework

Multi-core platforms represent the answer of the industry to the increasing demand for computational capabilities. From a real-time perspective, however, the inherent sharing of resources, such as memory subsystem and I/O channels, creates inter-core timing interference among critical tasks and applications deployed on different cores. As a result, modular per-core certification cannot be perfo...

Ultra-Low-Energy DSP Processor Design for Many-Core Parallel Applications

Background and Objectives: Digital signal processors are widely used in energy constrained applications in which battery lifetime is a critical concern. Accordingly, designing ultra-low-energy processors is a major concern. In this work and in the first step, we propose a sub-threshold DSP processor. Methods: As our baseline architecture, we use a modified version of an existing ultra-low-power...

High-performance parallelisation of real-time applications

This paper presents an overview of theP-SOCRATES methodology and tools, instantiated in theUpScale SDK (Software Development Kit) for the development oftime-predictable high-performance applications. The proposedmethodology was designed to provide an integrated SDK to fullyexploit the huge performance opportunities brought by the mostadvanced many-core processors, whilst ensuring a predictablep...

Employing MPI Collectives for Timing Analysis on Embedded Multi-Cores

Static WCET analysis of parallel programs running on shared-memory multicores suffers from high pessimism. Instead, distributed memory platforms which communicate via messages may be one solution for manycore systems. Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a standard for communication on these platforms. We show how its concept of collective operations can be employed for timing analysis. The idea ...
